High blood pressure, or hypertension, usually causes no symptoms. Diagnosis depends on accurate blood-pressure measurements, and ongoing monitoring is important because untreated hypertension increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and vascular dementia.
Established care may include lifestyle changes and prescribed medication. Acupuncture must not replace monitoring, medication or GP-led treatment.
Jamie has direct clinical experience supporting people with hypertension alongside their medical care. Chinese medicine uses an individual diagnosis, considering the wider presentation including sleep, stress, energy, digestion, medication and general health.
Personal clinical experience informs how care is delivered but does not establish that acupuncture will lower blood pressure for every person.
The British Acupuncture Council's 2019 fact sheet reports studies suggesting possible blood-pressure reductions, particularly alongside medication. It also acknowledges inconsistent findings, variable study quality and insufficient evidence of sustained benefit.

Continue prescribed medication unless the responsible clinician advises otherwise. Call 999 for chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe breathing difficulty or other emergency symptoms.
A first appointment provides time to discuss whether acupuncture may be a suitable supportive part of your wider care.
