Fertility

Chinese medicine provides excellent support for couples seeking to improve their fertility. It can give all important rebalancing to hormones and blood-flow in the body, ensuring the optimal development of ovaries, eggs, uterus and sperm. Emotions and stress are balanced and eased to allow a happier and healthier experience, whether following the natural pregnancy route or that of IVF or ART.

Both acupuncture and Chinese herbs, has for a long time been seen as a top level treatment for infertility: providing real improvements and excellent support. Acupuncture alone is a very good method. When combined with herbal medicine the treatment is powerful and transformational. The herbal remedies are chosen to complement your condition and will strengthen your system. Some practitioners use set protocols in their practice. My approach is different: I use traditional diagnosis and follow from what that says to produce an individualised approach. Such is the strength and breadth of the Chinese medical tradition associated with the treatment of fertility that a person recieving treatment will usually also feel better in themselves: increasing vitality, and decreasing stress responses.

PCOS If you have been given the diagnosis of PCOS you are no doubt interested in methods that can make a real difference. I have had a number of PCOS patients and had really good results from them, resulting in a number of successful pregnancies. PCOS fits a certain Chinese Medicine syndrome (called Internal Rheum or Dampness) very well... and the treatment for that syndrome is usually very effective indeed.

Male Fertility This is of course essential at least to consider and if need be treat. Male fertility is closely associated with many traditional Chinese Medicine categories of disease (often associated with fatigue) making treatment straightforward and effective. understand the condition that you are coming with, this is an important step, and expect to answer a variety of questions about both your physical and sometimes emotional condition.

Pain

Acupuncture is very useful in the treatment of emotional conditions, and this aspect is one that has been celebrated over the millennia in China. Fundamentally Chinese medicine views the mind and body as a coherent whole, with no obvious separation from one aspect to another. Treatment for emotional conditions consequently are very much part of the usual flow of Chinese medicine and I recommend in particular using acupuncture to address the condition of anxiety and its related feelings.

Anxiety is the most common emotional condition that I see in the clinic. Anxiety may also relate to feelings of not being able to cope with stressful situations, which at its most strong may come out as panic attacks. Acupuncture may help alleviate the feeling of distress often present with anxiety, may help improve sleep and give the person valuable self-help tools to allow them to manage their life, along with its usual stresses and strains.

Many people find that the treatment of anxiety and stress by acupuncture to be actually quite revolutionary in their lives, and may wish to make their acupuncture treatment a long-term thing which supports them as they go through their lives.

Depression. The second most common emotional condition treated by acupuncture is depression along with a range of related conditons: low mood, lack of motivation, low self-esteem.and difficult feelings following bereavement. Fundamentally acupuncture can help add more energy into a person's system, giving them a boost of vitality that is felt in the body and subsequently in the mind and emotions.

The link that Chinese medicine makes between the body and mind is very profound and results in a way of approaching this issue that is refreshing and can bring very real relief to the sufferer.

An excellent piece of research has been conducted that shows that acupuncture is an effective means of treating depression. Please click here:

I have a particular interest in the treatment of bereavement. This is a very important area of health and well-being which is often neglected. Treatment with acupuncture can cover a variety of the complex range of feelings that arise from the loss of a loved one.  Do get in touch with me if you want to talk more about how acupuncture can help bereavement.

Insomnia

Insomnia is a distressing condition for many. It affects people in ways that are hard to see outwardly, but manifest in varying difficult levels of tiredness during the day. It is often the case that anxiety accompanies insomnia,  so that people feel worried about their lack of sleep, and then this causes them to continue to have poor sleep as they worry more more about whether they will get enough rest to be to function during the day. Added to this sort of problem one may find the use of quite strong sleeping medication, which may actually make their condition very much worse in the long term. I am not a medical practitioner in the conventional sense and can never make direct recommendations about patients reducing their conventional medication however many of my patients have managed to reduce their sleep medication by themselves in conjunction with treatments for insomnia.

Treatments for sleep problems nearly always include a careful assessment of the emotional condition of the person and the treatment will encompass helping the person feel more balanced emotionally.

A standard course of treatment is to benefit insomnia will last about six weeks and after that time it will be quite clear to the person receiving whether they feel that this may be useful long-term strategy to improve the health and well-being. In which case a transfer to a once a fortnight or once a month treatment is recommended

Hot Flushes

Hot flushes can be a real source of distress. Affecting mainly menopausal women this can typically impact very badly one's quality-of-life and perhaps most problematically the quality of sleep.  Ordinary menopausal type hot flushes are well known to be treated by acupuncture,  and this is often done in conjunction with appropriate dietary advice and lifestyle advice. Treatment in this situation should be thought of as a long-term issue with fortnightly and monthly treatments the approach to take.

Hot flushes do also affect both men and women who are undergoing hormonal treatment as part of their cancer care treatment within conventional medicine. This is often due to taking certain hormone -related medications that reduce the potential growth of cancer cells  helping these people stay cancer free. However side effects of extreme hot flushes and very bad night sweats make a huge impact, and this may well last for years.  I have had the privilege of volunteering at two cancer charities in Berkshire and Surrey and have found some truly excellent and revolutionary methods of treating these severe hormone- medicine -related hot flushes. Some of my experiences are related here in this blog under cancer care.

Treatment for this severe hot flush, for either women or men, is actually very effective and not particularly  long in duration. Relief may be found within just a few sessions and the improvements does seem to be quite long lasting.

Digestive Problems

IBS and other digestive problems like constipation are very well treated with Chinese Medicine.

Both the acupuncture and Chinese Herbal approach can yield very good results.

It is absolutely standard with your treatment that I will make specific dietary recommendations.

Tiredness

Issues about tiredness are far ranging, from plain fatigue to the very much more complex syndromes of ME and CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), overlapping with Fibromyalgia.

While acupuncture can deal quite effectively with fatigue, I usually recommend a combined or herbal only approach for these complex tiredness syndromes, and advise that treatment will be relatively long term, i.e. a few months long.

Headache

This can range from Migraine to Tension Headache from any cause. I will very carefully assess you to help eliminate any causes in your lifestyle, then go on to correct underlying imbalances in your energy and blood flow. With patience often a 100% improvement can be had to this difficult issue.
