IVF can involve medical appointments, medication, procedures, uncertainty and significant emotional pressure. People seek acupuncture during IVF for different reasons, including general wellbeing, relaxation and support through the treatment process.
Acupuncture is complementary care. It does not replace fertility investigations, IVF treatment or advice from your fertility clinic, and no improvement in pregnancy or live-birth outcomes can be promised.
During treatment, Jamie considers your fertility history, IVF plan, medication, treatment stage, sleep, stress, digestion and wider health. Acupuncture appointments are arranged with awareness of your clinic schedule and medical instructions.
Continue all medication and follow your fertility clinic's advice. Tell both your clinic and Jamie about relevant diagnoses, medication changes and procedures.
Chinese medicine uses an individual diagnosis rather than giving everybody undergoing IVF the same treatment. Jamie combines more than 20 years of clinical experience with detailed pulse diagnosis and adapts treatment according to the person and treatment stage.
The first appointment provides time to discuss fertility history, investigations, previous treatment, your current IVF plan and the support you are seeking. It includes an individual Chinese medicine assessment and, where appropriate, your first acupuncture treatment.
IVF acupuncture support sits within the Fertility and IVF Pathway. The pathway provides a structured but individual approach before and during fertility treatment.
Research into acupuncture alongside IVF has produced mixed findings. The British Acupuncture Council's 2019 fact sheet describes reviews reporting potential benefits, while also noting that study quality and methods need improvement.
The evidence does not establish that acupuncture will improve IVF success for an individual. Treatment decisions should consider your preferences, circumstances and fertility clinic's advice.

Contact your fertility clinic promptly about medication concerns, unexpected symptoms or questions during IVF. Seek urgent medical help for severe abdominal pain or swelling, breathing difficulty, fainting, heavy bleeding or other serious symptoms.
If you are preparing for or undergoing IVF, a first appointment gives us time to understand your situation and discuss whether acupuncture support is appropriate alongside your fertility-clinic care.
